Behind the Scenes … Doy Cave

eMarketSouth really lucked out this summer when the caveman came a knocking! Doy Cave was sent to us from some higher power because the design gods knew we were in need of a fresh face with new design ideas. Some of the work Doy has done while working with the great folks at emarketsouth include: Brown’s Guide, Atlanta360, Homesillustrated, Southernmamas and Larry Stuber to name a few. He and his lovely wife Jessica lived in New Orleans and Calgary before returning to Savannah where Doy was born and raised. Not only is he an excellent designer but he is also the proud father of four. That’s right I said four … ranging in age from 2 to 6 (can you say sleep deprived designer?). So when he isn’t designing at his at the computer, sketching design ideas in his moleskine or attending church functions, he can be found chasing Brendan, Caleb, Abigail and Ethan and hoping no one gets an eye poked out. Look for more great things from Doy as he takes on more and more new clients and redesigns some old favorites.

42 Dog Years with eMarketSouth

This week marks my six year anniversary with eMarketSouth. How the time does fly when you’re having fun.

I was hired in November 2001 just prior to my graduation from Georgia Southern University. The trials I endured for the interview process led me to believe there was no way I was qualified for this position. In fact, I was initially told I’d be a secretary, but was surprised when Jack Scott took a chance on me. According to him, he was most impressed that I built websites by hand, meaning I did all HTML in TextPad, not a WYSIWYG editor. There were just three of us in production at the time, and we all shared the same office and went to lunch together every day. I had a steep learning curve without a programming background, but Jack tried his best to be patient and not put me into tears too often.

For nearly two years, I was the only female in the production department. In larger companies, that might have been intimidating. But coming to work every day in jeans, flip flops and a T-shirt, I was not intimidated and felt more comfortable to be more productive. There were times that I had to be “the girl,” such as at business expos as I decorated the booth and exercised my people skills to answer questions. I had lots of opportunities to show off and stun others with what a woman can do in the world of technology, and that always made long days worth the effort.

Over the years, I’ve watched eMarketSouth outgrow our office spaces, expand and take on greater challenges time and time again. I’ve been given many opportunities to push myself, try new technology and learn from my mistakes. But the main thing that keeps me at eMarketSouth is the sense of family that has evolved. We’re not so little anymore, but we still have the opportunity to connect with each other in ways often overlooked or discouraged in major corporations. These connections bring our team together to make the best products and services for our clients.

Featured Blog … blog.coastalreg.com

Our featured blog can be found on the site belonging to one of our real estate clients. This client’s blog was developed for a few reasons … one, they were interested in driving more traffic to their site (who isn’t); two, CRG has invested in our internet marketing service and this piece is a must have to promote your site; three, they are local with a great feel for our coastal area and the advantages of living here; four, it isn’t really enough anymore to just have a website especially when you are in a fluid industry like real estate. So that’s how this whole thing got started. When I first went to their office to train them on using their fabulous new marketing tool, the agents who sat in on the training were not quite bought into the advantages of this web thing called a blog. Fortunately, the company has a bright, interesting and educated woman managing their office who took hold of the responsibility and has made it a great addition to their site. Check it out … blog.coastalreg.com. See what I mean? Charlene Overturf has written about industry specific topics while also highlighting areas in the coastal region that might interest potential buyers. And that’s what this is all about … driving customers to what you have to offer. While there are many good reasons to create a blog for your business, it is also a fun venture to research industry information and write about the impact on your business. Stay tuned for more featured clients and their blogs …
