Spires Gibson … the newest addition

We have a new account executive at eMarketSouth, Spires Gibson but you can call him Spy. (for those of you wondering … Spires is a family name) Spy comes to us from the Statesboro area where he was raised and attended college. He earned a degree in Public Relations at the Georgia Southern University before moving to Savannah and joining our team. He is a member of Sigma Chi, lives with his pooch and has spent lots of time on the water since moving to the coast. He is learning the language we throw around the office and being a good sport about the geek speak. Pretty soon we will wonder what we ever did without our very own Spy. When you are out networking around town and run into him, introduce yourself and let him know you have read about his new venture into website sales. You can also find him on myspace and facebook so look him up or contact him by email: spires@emarketsouth.com

Blue Knights GA VIII: Keeping Members Connected

Recently, we at eMarketSouth had the pleasure of rebuilding the website for the Blue Knights GA VIII chapter, a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy riding motorcycles.

I will be the first to boast how happy I was that they liked my design. Typically, Doy is our supreme design guru, but as I have a soft spot for non-profits, I requested the task for myself. The design now had a consistent navigation for each page that made it easy to move throughout the website and clean, official branding.

Previously, the site was, well, rather empty. Part of the problem was that chapter officers did not have the time to create HTML code and update the site as regularly as they had information to be added. So instead, the site occupied space on the Internet but didn’t really further the chapter’s mission or provide accurate and timely information to its members.

In rebuilding the website, we created each page to be dynamic, meaning chapter officers can make updates anytime they want, whether it be 3 pm or 3 am. Now, members can have the latest information and resources to stay connected with the chapter’s activities. Persons interested in becoming a member now have information on applying as well as the activities in which the chapter is involved.

We additionally added a photo gallery to showcase the chapter’s events and a memorial section to recognize members who have passed. We gave the site a contact form that allows any visitor to the site to immediately send an email to the chapter, which could be parties interested in becoming a member or becoming a sponsor or current members who just need to ask a question. Chapter members can even list items to be swapped. We even threw in a few SEO tricks as a bonus.

At eMarketSouth we understand the daunting task of providing services to the community. It gives us such satisfaction to help non-profits further their mission through their websites. Contact us to help you increase your marketing ROI with a dynamic website that keeps your members and prospective donors interested and informed.

Taking Business Networking Online

It seems each week in Savannah there is a business networking opportunity of some sort, and many on the same day. As a business executive or entrepreneur, how can you possibly attend each and every one? You just can’t. Instead, you have to pick and choose which events to attend that will give you the largest ROI. You spend your evening passing out and receiving business cards, taking mental notes of those to call back later. After a couple hours, it can be quite tiring, especially if you go to one or two a day as I normally find myself.

But what you may find after a few meetings is that you are meeting the same people over and over. While it is always great to be able to have people recognize your face for when you call on them, you really want to be able to reach as many leads as possible. Here is where social networking sites can help.

Most of us are familiar with MySpace, possibly more so for negative reasons exploited by the media than positive ones. But many businesses have created MySpace profiles to allow them to directly market their demographic. Businesses have a full range of options from blogs to special announcements (bulletins) to photo galleries, all for free. All it takes is someone with enough web savy to make regular updates (or someone with a 14-year-old).

If MySpace isn’t for you, perhaps you’d like to try Facebook. Recent Apple iPhone commercials showcase the phone’s ability to keep Facebook users updated of activity related to their Facebook pages. Think of Facebook as a reunion assistant; when you register, it immediately asks you for your location, high school and college and will help you locate other Facebook members who have the same listings for their profiles.

But if you want to keep things strictly business, then get registered at LinkedIn. You can sign up to connect with your current business contacts including co-workers and clients, but also get introduced to their business contacts. People who have done business with you may also leave recommendations of your work or services, and you can use your profile page as your personal sales tool. Additionally, the site offers informative articles related to careers and networking and even allows for user submitted questions and answers. And as an added bonus, LinkedIn profiles are often returned in search engine results, helping you to boost your SEO.

In a time of economic uncertainty, make the time to put online business networking tools to work. You just never know who you might reach.
