Facebook: Everyone Else is Doing It, Why Aren’t You?

Chances are if you aren’t on Facebook, you know someone who is. It has rapidly become the number one social networking site, passing MySpace. You can post photos, reconnect with childhood friends, view videos, and blog. But you can also use it as a tool for your business.

At eMarketSouth, we know a good thing when we see it. That’s why when we launched KeytoSavannah.com, we also created a Facebook component. We realized that Facebook allows us to reach many more people when launching a new website. And best of all, it’s free.

Here’s how it works: You designate one person to create an account. Our fabulous Alicia was delegated the task. Alicia created an account, and we all added Key to Savannah as a friend. Then our friends became friends, and then their friends, and before you knew it, over 1,000 people knew about our new website.

While we use Facebook to generate interest, we don’t give everything away. We put teasers to get people to our main website. When we launch a new feature or add a new blog, Alicia makes a note of it on Facebook and invites everyone to come take a look on the main website.

Having friends is great, but Facebook thinks you shouldn’t have more than 4,999. That’s why there are Group and Fan pages available. There (currently) is no limit to the number of people who can join, and the pages also provide a discussion board to facilitate discussions between members. So when do you use a group page vs a fan page? Paula Deen should have a fan page; everyone else should have a group page. But make sure you have someone who will keep it current. It’s not a thermostat; you can’t set it and forget it. People will only stay as interested as you keep them.

Have questions or want to know more? The newly-formed PRO Women of Savannah will be hosting a Roundtable Discussion about using Facebook for your business on Wednesday, February 25 from 12 to 1 pm at Cha Bella. eMarketSouth’s Lisa Scarbrough will facilitate the discussion.

www.keytosavannah.com

eMarketSouth has been busy lately!  In addition to making sure our clients’ websites are functioning, profitable, and well, darn good looking, we have also created and launched www.keytosavannah.com. Keytosavannah.com is a comprehensive website about well, Savannah.  You’ll find restaurants, events, churches, museums and much more  as well as fun facts and cool maps.  Of course we built it in part for the Savannah visitor, but we didn’t forget about the native.  Bookmark keytosavannah.com to keep up to date on everything that is happening in and around town and send the link off to family and friends when they are planning their visit.

Savannah businesses, see yourself on www.keytosavannah.com.   We have been do an awful lot of bragging lately about this website, and the people have responded.  We have also put together a sweeping marketing plan complete with both traditional advertising to Internet marketing.  And now that www.keytosavannah.com is being seen we want to get you in on the action. You most likely already have a free listing, now it’s up to us find the package that fits you needs and your budget.

This is just the beginning of keytosavannah.com and the entire Keyto brand.  Check back often for updates, changes and tons of cool, new features.

Thanks, Savannah, for being our inspiration!

Do Your Potential Customers Know Who You Are?

Ok, so you have a fabulous website (because we made it for you) and you are getting a lot of traffic. But how well are you letting your potential customers get to know you?

A growing trend on websites is to include profiles of key executives and personnel. This allows your potential customer to put a face with a name when they call or email you. It also may help you to connect with a customer that may be on the fence about choosing you over a competitor. For example, if you include your alma mater in your profile, you may attract former classmates or other alumni. (I should caution sports fanatics about listing their favorite teams: nothing sparks more passion and controversy than sports rivals.)

Your profile can be as long or as short as you want, but the idea is to put yourself out there for the visitors. You also have an added bonus: profiles may help your SEO. That’s right. Adding content to your site is always a good thing, and think of all the keywords your profile may contain, such as schools, business associations, certifications, trainings, awards, etc.

Recently, Coastal Pet Rescue re-vamped their Leadership Team page to allow each team member to have their own page with biography and Curriculum Vitae. Visitors now see the list of each team member, their title and job description and may click a link to learn more about that individual. CPR chose to do this to build credibility for the organization and demonstrate the diverse skills and talents of the leadership team.

Now that you’ve decided you want a profile, what do you do next? I highly recommend making an outline and bullet points. Use titles such as education, certifications and training, awards, and family. Once you have your outline, then you can begin to put information together. Remember to write concisely and try to avoid run on sentences. And whatever you do, don’t forget the spelling and grammar checks. Have someone proof read your profiles before making them public. After all, you want to make the best impression possible to your potential clients.
